ഹൈറേഞ്ചിലെ വളഞ്ഞു തിരിഞ്ഞ സ്മൂത് റോഡിലൂടെ മാന്യമായാണ് കാർ ഓടുന്നത്. അറുപതിൽ തന്നെ. ഇതുവഴി പോകുമ്പോൾ കാണാറുള്ള കാടും റിസർവോയിറുമൊക്കെ മഞ്ഞ് പുതച്ചുറക്കമാണ്.

ചൂടിന് വലിയൊരു റ്റെഡിയെ കെട്ടിപ്പിടിച്ച് വലിയ ഫർ ജാക്കറ്റും മാച്ച് ആവുന്ന ക്യാപ്പും വച്ച് ഒരു ചെമ്മരിയാട്ടിൻകുട്ടിയേപ്പോലെ പെണ്ണ് കിടന്നുറങ്ങുന്നു (Twinkle twinkle little star). വിരൽ കൂടി കുടിക്കേണ്ടതായിരുന്നു പാവം. എന്തായിരുന്നു രാത്രിയിലെ പെർഫോമൻസ്..! ഒടിച്ച് കളഞ്ഞില്ലെന്നേ ഉള്ളു. അമ്മയാണെന്നെങ്കിലും ഓർക്കണ്ടേ…

3 മണിക്ക് കുത്തിപ്പൊക്കി ഒരു സർപ്രൈസ് ഉണ്ടെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് ബ്രാ പോലും ഇടാൻ സമയം കൊടുക്കാതെ T-shirt മാത്രം ഇടീപ്പിച്ച് കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് കാറിൽ വച്ചപ്പോൾ തുടങ്ങിയ ഉറക്കമാണ്.

സമയം 4:20 (am). റോഡിൽ ആളനക്കമില്ല. ആനയിറങ്ങുന്ന സ്ഥലമാണ് കുറച്ച് കൂടി കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ. വളവ് തിരിഞ്ഞ് ചെന്ന് കയറുന്നത് ചിലപ്പോൾ ഒറ്റയാൻ്റെ അണ്ണാക്കിലേയ്ക്കോ കൊമ്പൻ്റെ ബെഡ്റൂമിലേയ്ക്കോ ആവാൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ട്. വളരെ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ച് ഓടിക്കണമെങ്കിലും നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടിൽ ഡ്രൈവിങ്, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് മാനുവൽ ഏറ്റവും ആസ്വദിക്കാൻ പറ്റുന്നത് ഹൈറേഞ്ച് റോഡുകളിലാണ്.

കാറിൻ്റെ ഓരോ മിടിപ്പും ഫീൽ ചെയ്ത് ട്രാൻസ്മിഷൻ പൂർണമായും സ്വന്തം കൺട്രോളിൽ കൊണ്ടുപോവുമ്പോഴേ ഒരാൾ നല്ല ഡ്രൈവർ ആകൂ. ‘ചിലപ്പോൾ’ യാത്രയ്ക്ക് നല്ലത് ഓട്ടോമാറ്റിക് ആയിരിക്കാം. പക്ഷെ ഡ്രൈവിങ് അതിൻ്റെ ‘പൂർണ്ണതയിൽ’ ആസ്വദിക്കാൻ പെട്രോൾ മാനുവൽ തന്നെ വേണം (imo).

ഇന്ന് കൈയ്യിൽ ഉള്ളത് Fortuner Zenith 2.7 MT (Stealth Black- Matte Finish) ആണ്. (Custom built and named by me) (Specs as follows)

Power: ~195 hp @ 5800 rpm

Torque: ~310 Nm @ 4000 rpm

Transmission: 6-speed manual, short-throw gearbox (non-jerky)

Drivetrain: RWD with selectable torque bias (custom limited-slip diff)

With so many other Tech-Mech-Aesthetic tweaks including Largest-in-class panoramic sunroof and a 360° camera.
